Ridgeside Farm is building a new
tradition on an old Chattanooga farm
site. Long-time Chattanooga
residents remember purchasing
produce at the 235 Shallowford Rd.
site. In the old days, people
could pick up produce on the porch
and leave their money in a box.
Currently, Ridgeside Farm is
offering a limited CSA.
In a CSA, members buy shares and the
farm promises to deliver produce in
season. This gives farmers
capital at the beginning of the
season and provides fresh produce
for those who don't grow their own.
Shareholders have some risk since in
any season some crops may not
develop. On the plus side,
shareholders get to pick up fresh
produce throughout the entire
growing season.
Ridgeside Farm will be offering
quarter-bushel shares for
twenty-five weeks from May through
November. A quarter-bushel is
the size of a traditional paper
grocery bag. The cost of
twenty-five weeks of a grocery bag of
produce is $250.00. Pick-up
times will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on
Tuesday or Friday. Customers
will need to select which day they
wish to pick up. There will be
a limited number of shares available
on each pick-up day.
Vegetables listed by month
on the home page are
anticipated, but not
guaranteed. Weather and
other factors can limit
availability.
At the beginning of the
season, we may not be able
to offer a full bag each
week. In May and June, we
anticipate having bags
filled for you and available
during the pick-up time.
Beginning in July, we expect
to allow customers to fill
their bags, making more of
their own choices.
The twenty-five week season
will be from May 18 to
November 2 for Tuesday
pick-up customers. For
Friday pick-up customers,
the season will be from May
22 to November 6.
